MEET YOUR TEACHER

Kamila Lichvárová

Hi, I’m Kamila — a professional ballroom and Latin dancer, teacher, and Performance Coach.

Originally from Slovakia, I began dancing at just 3 years old. What started as an after-school activity grew into a lifelong, life-changing journey of disciplined training, self-care, performance, competitions, teaching, and empowerment.

I’ve coached dancers of all levels — from my youngest students to my oldest, at 95 years old, from beginners to advanced dancers, from amateurs to pro-am competitors — across multiple countries. Through these experiences, I’ve gained a perspective far beyond technical excellence, discovering how dance can transform the body, boost confidence, enhance emotional expression, deepen self-connection, and influence audiences through performance.

Today, I share my knowledge with everyone who steps on the dance floor, helping them move stronger, freer, and more connected — both on and off the floor.

The Science of Dance and Its Benefits for Body, Mind, and Soul

Dancing is far more than just a physical activity; it’s a transformative experience that offers profound benefits for mental, cognitive, and social well-being. Studies reveal that regular dance can significantly reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, thanks to its ability to lower cortisol levels and increase the production of mood-enhancing neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin. This unique combination of physical movement and creative expression helps elevate mood and relieve stress, making dance an effective tool for emotional healing.

The combination of movement and music creates an additional layer of benefits. Music has a well-documented healing effect, and when paired with dance, it can enhance positive emotions and feelings of euphoria. According to a review in the Journal of Positive Psychology, moving in sync with music activates brain regions associated with reward and pleasure, making dance a powerful form of emotional expression and well-being.

In summary, dancing is a holistic activity that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit, supporting emotional health, cognitive function, physical fitness, and community connection—all essential elements for a fulfilling and healthy life.

In terms of cognitive health, dance has been found to lower the risk of dementia by up to 76%. Engaging in dance requires a high level of cognitive function, as it involves memory recall, spatial awareness, and the ability to adapt to a partner’s movements. This mental engagement is essential for maintaining cognitive flexibility and overall brain health. A study conducted by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine highlights that dancing is the most effective form of exercise for delaying cognitive decline compared to other physical activities, making it a crucial practice for lifelong brain health.

On the physical side, dancing promotes cardiovascular fitness, balance, and coordination, making it suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
